Non-Competitive Science Fair Program

Science World presents our NEW province-wide science fair program to support those who wish to coordinate non-competitive science fairs for K-7 students.

The non-competitive approach provides a fun environment for kids to get turned onto science at an early age. With this new intiative, we aim to:

  • build more positive attitudes toward science
  • increase confidence and future participation in science-related courses and events
  • improve overall scientific literacy

In addition, the nature of the elementary school classroom allows for cross curricular connections so many learning outcomes can be met through science project activity.

The program includes a FREE downloadable science fair guide with sections that can be customized to suit your needs. Workshops are available to adults seeking support to coordinate science fairs in their community.

SW's Science Fair Guide

Download everything you need to know about Science Fairs in our original, comprehensive guide!

We aim to support those who wish to coordinate non-competitive science fairs for Kindergarten to Grade 7 students. Please share this resource with colleagues and modify in whatever ways necessary to get more students doing science!

The guide is divided into four sections, each with handouts that can be customized to suit your particular needs:

  • Planning the Fair: From timelines to team building, this section outlines the steps for planning the event.
  • Organizing the Students: Find explanations and support materials for students’ projects.
  • During the Event: What happens on the day?—from interviewing to draw prizes.
  • Evaluation: Includes a variety of assessment options, including how to prepare students for competitive fairs.
