Forest Stories

Forest Stories will introduce students to the plant biodiversity in local B.C. forests, while working collaboratively to develop a story about how plants and animals react when faced with extreme weather events.

Through stories, students will explore the interactions between forest ecosystems and climate change, be introduced to First People’s knowledge and learn the importance of showing gratitude to our planet, explore the adaptations and characteristics of some local plants and animals that allow them to face extreme weather. Students will then build their storytelling skills through creating group skits featuring keystone forest species dealing with extreme weather event, like floods, wildfires, or droughts. Students will reflect on their learning and make a climate action commitment at the end of the lesson to support B.C. forests.

• Maximum class size is 28. Please note, students will be working in groups for this workshop.
• Teachers and chaperones are required to remain present during the workshop to assist with material distribution, facilitation, and behaviour management.
