Girls and STEAM Studios

Calling participants aged 12 – 14!

Join us at the dome on April 13, 2024 from 9am – 12pm for an exhilarating morning of interactive workshops where you’ll step into the shoes of a scientist.

Two dynamic workshops led by local STEAM organizations will guide you through the boundless possibilities that exist when you follow your curiosity. Passionate professionals will answer all your questions about the exciting and diverse world of STEAM.

Intrigued by new technologies, artistic innovation, or scientific discoveries? You’ll find valuable insight and inspiration here for a future filled with wonder.

While the terms “women” and “girls” are used, this inclusive program welcomes participants of many gender identities – whether you identify as a girl, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two-Spirit, or gender questioning, you're invited!

We're excited to announce our 2 workshops for the day!

Workshop 1: STEMCELL Technologies

In this hands-on workshop, budding scientists will learn about the basics of DNA, including its structure, components, and base-pairing rules. In doing so, they’ll discover how some DNA sequences for different proteins are present in every living thing on Earth.

Workshop 2: UBC Departments of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences

Participants will step into the role of oceanographers, crafting and testing their own neutrally buoyant floats! The hidden world beneath the ocean's surface remains a mystery; these devices are vital for diving deep to explore these depths, allowing scientists to trace the invisible currents that carry heat, nutrients, and more.
