Calling Future Innovators Ages 12-14!

Join us under the Dome on Saturday, February 15 from 9am – 12pm for an exciting morning of hands-on workshops where you’ll step into the world of science and tech.

Dive into artificial intelligence (AI) and coding through two interactive sessions with local STEAM experts. Learn how these ground-breaking technologies are transforming our world, from creating smarter tools to solving real-life challenges.

Ask questions, get creative, and discover the endless possibilities of technology in art, science, and everyday life. Whether you identify as a girl, trans, non-binary, Two-spirit, or gender questioning, all are welcome to join!

Space is limited for this free experience. Registration opens on January 13, 2025. Act fast to secure your spot!

Workshop Details

  1. AI-Powered Artwork or Meme Creation presented by Rashmi Acharyya: Discover the artist in you with the help of Artificial Intelligence! In this workshop, you’ll use cutting-edge AI tools to create stunning digital artwork or hilarious memes, all powered by your imagination. Learn how AI understands styles, generates visuals, and brings your ideas to life with just a few simple prompts.
  2. Data Detectives: Investigating AI with Micro:bits presented by Hilary Abraham: Participants will delve into the role of data in machine learning. Using micro:bits, they will collect data samples and create their own AI! Get ready for an active, hands-on experience in artificial intelligence.

What Should I Expect on The Day?

  • Participate in two engaging STEAM Studio Sessions led by local professionals in various STEAM fields.
  • Expect a hands-on, interactive experience packed with lots of opportunities to learn directly from experts in STEAM.
  • Don't forget to bring a water bottle and a snack to keep you fueled!

Speaker Bios

Hilary Abraham (BSc. Neuroscience, Certificate of Science Communication) is a tech-ed & sci-comm specialist, creating, and delivering technology lessons across British Columbia as Science World’s Tech-Up Facilitator. She has a pet tarantula and loves exploring intertidal zones!
