Girls and STEAM

The Girls and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Math) Program at Science World encourages participants ages 12-14, to pursue their scientific interests and explore potential career fields by expanding their knowledge of and access to STEAM opportunities.

The program dispels myths about STEAM occupations and provides participants with a welcoming space to engage in STEAM-based activities to expand and explore their interests and increase confidence. It also highlights the local community and resources available to girls and women in STEAM in British Columbia.

Providing a range of different opportunities throughout the year, the Girls and STEAM program hopes to provide something for everyone! We have events ranging from online webinars reaching schools all over the province, intimate in-person studio sessions with local STEAM professionals, to our grand Girls and STEAM Summit celebration in November. If you’re a future STEAM leader this is the program for you!

This inclusive program welcomes participants and mentors of many gender identities – whether you identify as a girl, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two-Spirit, or gender questioning, you're welcomed!

Summit

The Girls and STEAM Summit is our most exciting event of the year! Now in its 7th year! This event brings together 300 participants for a day of hands-on learning, exploring and discovery.

Participants take part in a number of different activities including a mentor café, hands-on workshops, showcase booth competitions, and an amazing keynote speaker. Registration for this event sells out every year, so make sure to sign up as soon as you can to get your spot!

Please note that registration for the Girls and STEAM Summit is not yet open.

Livestreams

We know it’s not possible for everyone to get to the Science World Dome in-person, so we host online livestreams events throughout the year so that everyone can engage and get involved with Girls and STEAM.

These are opportunities for both individuals and school groups to join in, find out about the STEAM careers, and speak to the professionals themselves!

Whilst there are no age restrictions on who can join these livestreamed sessions, they are most appropriate for those in Grades 6 to 8.

Workshops

These in-person events bring together the most popular sessions of the Girls and STEAM Summit, our interactive workshops!

Join us for an exhilarating morning of hands-on learning. These studio sessions give you the chance to work alongside experienced STEAM professionals and try your hand at all sorts of different activities.

Each Studio will consist of two different sessions, and you’ll get a chance to try both of them! This event is exclusively for participants ages 12-14 years old.
