Today was the day! Our Red Russian garlic in the Ken Spencer Science Park was looking ready for harvesting. Great timing, since we needed the soil space for our 3-Sister crops (stay tuned, for more info about that). Staff and visitors stopped by to learn and participate in harvesting the garlic and drying it (also known as curing). You know garlic is ready for harvest when its leaves are about half yellow. The garlic will dry for about 2 weeks, and then they're off to the Food Bank!
A big thank you to our gardener and all round handyman, Dustin, for building the perfect contraption for hanging the garlic to dry. If you'd like to see a few photos from the garlic harvest, you can check them out here.
