In this exploration, students add water to cornstarch packing peanuts and observe the surprising results!
Cornstarch and water do funny things when you mix them together. Bits of cornstarch become suspended in water - this means that they are being held in the water, but are not really dissolving or breaking up in the water. Because cornstarch bits are so tiny it looks like they are fully dissolving and 'disappearing' in the water.
These activities are part of Science World’s Big Science For Little Hands program. They were developed and tested with preschool and kindergarten educators. Some of the activities are done in stations.
