Some people in the Science World and broader communities may have noticed we removed a few of the images associated with this exhibition. The exhibition’s original advertisement featured an image of a Kayan woman wearing brass neck coils, which is a feature of the Cultural Practices portion of the exhibition. This part of the exhibition celebrates the diversity of our world by exploring body modification techniques practiced by different cultures around the world, and demonstrates the science of how these changes affect the functioning of the human body. However we recognized that without the context of this exhibition, this image could be misinterpreted. It has also been brought to our attention that the environment in which the original images and rights were obtained was questionable. We have worked with our partners in investigating this, and while we know the exhibition organizers obtained copyrights and permissions, there was enough question around the issue that we chose to remove the images. We are deeply apologetic for any offence that these images have caused. If you have any questions, please contact us.
