On Saturday, October 5, one of the Around the Dome featured events was the KEVA Challenge. The challenge was for groups to build a music-themed structure to tie into our new feature exhibition, AMPED. Two teams from Churchill Secondary came to compete in this event. Both teams had their design in hand before the event began. The teams had three hours to build their structures. The three judges met the teams and read through the criteria on how the structure would be judged. There was a lot of conversation and planning once the teams commenced. The three judges were: Jamie Peterson, engineer; Sarita Baker, instructor at Langara College and the Art Institute; and Alexandra Cheng, master’s student in engineering at UBC.
Once the allotted time had expired, the judges scored the structures based on the challenge criteria and awarded the certificate. The members of Team P were the KEVA Champions for their structure depicting the Sydney Opera House. Team Synergy was the runner up for the Towers structure.
Within the next couple of months, the KEVA Champions will come back to build a structure in front of the KEVA Gallery.
