It's hard to believe that a third of the school year is already over. We’ve had lots of activity here at Science World as we continue our work supporting teachers! As you may already know, we aid teachers through our free, online resources and the Catalyst for Science website, but did you know that we now offer professional development workshops, too?
After consulting with BC teachers last year, we identified a need for more in-service teacher support, especially regarding the transformed curriculum.
Science World’s professional development workshops embrace an inquiry approach to teaching that reflects the new curriculum’s focus on place-based learning. They’re also a great way to share ideas and best practices with colleagues.
Our workshop offerings cover the following topics: inquiry learning, assessing for inquiry, place-based learning, and communities of practice. Since September, we’ve been to Fort St John and Nelson, and we’ve presented at the myPITA and Catalyst conferences. We even started a series of workshops with the Chilliwack School District. We’re planning to do more travelling in 2016—we’ll likely be in your school district soon!
